Social Science scholarship explores complex, often interrelated, social processes. It also researches ways in which the quality of life of individuals can be improved and the society can become more just, vibrant, and sustainable. Presentations in this colloquium represent the wide range of inquiries that social scientists pursue: ethical alternatives to risky high interest payday loans; impact of parking requirements on housing affordability; political participations among women in the Evangelical church; how movies and books bring our attention to the environment and shape our world; and people’s attitudes toward rent control policies.
Students and faculty discuss the value and importance of the social and behavioral science and how the disciplines that make up the College intertwine throughout life's teachings.

Aja Johnson became involved in campus organizations early in her Sacramento State career and has been a strong advocate for oppressed groups. A first-generation college student, her research has been published in the McNair Scholars Journal, and her campus involvement includes working as a student programmer with the PRIDE Center to develop and facilitate programming to educate the campus on queer and trans allyship. She also co-developed the Multi-Cultural Center’s Social Justice Leadership Seminar and served on the student team that helped establish the Martin Luther King Jr. Center. Off campus, she worked as a recreation aide at Hagginwood Community Center and as a college mentor with the 10,000 Degrees Summer Institute.
A great place to find your path!
